Instead of reading the 200 page book that I have a quiz on on Tuesday or working on the 20 page research proposal that I have due on the 20th, I'm posting this.

I am probably the best person to know if you ever get knocked up. I don't even know my brother's girlfriend, but I'm hooking them up with tons of baby stuff. Literally. I bought them a bunch of cute clothes, toys, bottles, and other baby supplies. They don't have much money (they're only 20 - neither has been to school and my brother will be deployed to Afghanistan until next summer) and I won't be able to attend the baby shower because I'll be busy with school, so I wanted to give them something nice and useful when I see them on Thursday.

Oh, and I tried to stick with gender neutral colors (yellow, green, orange) since they don't know the sex of the baby.

I also made her a really cute blue houndstooth diaper bag, complete with water-resistant vinyl lining for easy clean up. She can use it as a messenger bag when she doesn't need to haul around baby stuff anymore (at least, that's what I hope).

I'm also working on a baby quilt for them (though it won't be finished by the time I meet her next week).

I'm posting detailed pictures of everything under the cut because I think it's all so cute and I'm kind of sad that I have to give it all away.

Cute yellow onesie.

Little helicopter onesie.

My favorite! Monkey onesie with monkey feet!

Green striped sleeping gown. The front says "Too Cute."

My second favorite, clouds and suns.

Socks, hats, and tons of short sleeved onesies.

Burb cloths, bib, and bottle.

Smaller bottle, wipe case, receiving blankets, and nipples.

Hooded towels (I bought two on accident so they're getting both), washcloths, brush and comb (like they'll need it, but I couldn't resist it was so cute), and Aveeno baby wash and lotion (I don't think I'll be able to take this on the plane, though).

Teether rattle, booties, wrist rattles, and a pacifier.

The diaper bag! I'm really proud of how it turned out, so here are lots of pictures!

From the front:

There's a velcro pocket on each side.

And a big zippered pocket on the back, fully lined with vinyl.

The flap is secured with magnetic buttons.

Lots of elasticized vinyl pockets on the inside.

Here I am holding it, filled with all the presents!

Here's what it'll look like when Kayla opens it! I used brown paper to make it look mysterious...

And finally, the quilt! Here's a close up of the fabrics.

And this is what the backing fabric looks like. Dragons!!!

I really hope they like everything, because I'm obsessed with it and have a lot of time/money putting it all together. Let me know what you think!

Jesus, when did you start that quilt??
It looks great!

I had way too much fun shopping for baby stuff for my pregnant friend, as well.

Thanks!!! :) I cut, pieced, and quilted half of it last weekend. I still need to finish the other half and add the binding.

I need more pregnant friends to by/make stuff for. Baby stuff is the cutest!

Ha, we must've gone to the same high school! My freshman year, there were 17 pregnant freshman and most of my graduating class had kids within a year of graduating.

Yikes! That's insane.

p.s. I'm in awe of that messenger bag. Did you use a pattern. If not, I bow to you.

I used the (free) tutorial at this website: http://amingledyarn.wordpress.com/gallery/tutorial-hip-mama-diaper-bag/

The only difference is that I used a thrifted sheet instead of real fabric to make mine. You could totally make it; you've got skills! It was really simple to make, though working with the vinyl was somewhat of a bitch. I think it took around 7 hours total. I love it so much I think I'm going to make one for myself!

whoa this is such a great present. you're really awesome at sewing, where'd you learn?
Apr. 11th, 2009 09:42 pm (UTC)
Thank you! I actually taught myself to sew. I started by making my own clothes when I was in high school and I branched out to make purses, bags, pillows, and other fun stuff when I started college. It's a pretty fun hobby!

Awww, that's all so sweet of you!! The quilt looks so good, all of your corners line up so perfectly! Mine never do, but I'm not much of a perfectionist when it comes to quilting. I love the lacey lining of the bag, too.

Thank you! It's my first quilt and I really like how it's shaping up. I honestly have no idea how all the corners matched up so well because the squares that I cut were definitely not all the same size. I am way too lazy to be perfectionistic, especially on a baby quilt! The baby won't care!!!

Whoa, you got so much stuff! That must have been fun to shop for.
Apr. 12th, 2009 12:09 am (UTC)
It was SO fun to shop for! I went to four different stores looking for more and more stuff until I ran out of room in the bag!

I really hope we're still friends when I get knocked up. Holy crap!

That diaper bag looks great, and that quilt is absolutely beautiful! Seriously, it's gorgeous. I can't believe you did that in such a short amount of time!
Apr. 12th, 2009 12:04 am (UTC)
Haha, I can start making you stuff now just in case I die or something before you and Chris have your beautiful pale skinned, strawberry blond children. :) But seriously, I'll totally make you a bag now if you want!
